From the beginning of the summer, with the advent of the controversial season 10, Epic Games adopted a new approach to its star game ‘Fortnite‘, where the goal was to recruit new players and welcome them with open arms. Epic realized that a percentage of new players ended up abandoning the games, this due to the difficulty after facing players of higher level and experience.
According to Epic, ‘Fortnite’ should be an experience where “anyone can win,” something that wasn’t very well received by veterans. However. Epic goes ahead with its strategy and has just announced important changes that will arrive with the update to version 10.40, with new features in matchmaking and the incursion, for the first time, of bots so that “the new ones” can know the game and practice.
In ‘Fortnite’ “anyone can win”, according to Epic:
One of those changes we’ll see in ‘Fortnite’ will be the arrival of bots with artificial intelligence. According to Epic, these bots will be and behave like a normal player, where the goal will be for new players to improve their skills, get to know the game and gradually improve their performance.
Along side to bots, we’ll also have a new matchmaking system, because, according to Epic, in the last two years the skills of the players have increased considerably. For this reason, it was necessary to find a way for all players to be evenly matched on all platforms and there are more balanced matches.
That is, while newer ones will face bots with a low difficulty level, the more experienced will pair with players of similar levels, and thus have fairer matches. Epic explains that as we get better in the game, so will our opponents.
They also clarified that bots will not appear for those more experienced players, as they will only be available to newcomers to ‘Fortnite’. These bots are also part of the new peering system, and both changes will be rolled out gradually by region after the 10.40 update.
Another point to keep in mind is that bots won’t be available in competitive modes either. This mode remains intact for the moment and Epic mentioned that it is already looking for new ways to improve it.
Epic says it will closely monitor the performance of these new measures, where they are only looking for anyone to play. They also anticipated that they will report when these changes are already available worldwide.
